Frequently Asked Questions
Do I pay Empty the Home anything?
No. Our help is free to families. You only agree on a commission with the estate sale company, and it comes out of the sale.
Do I need to be there?
No. Many families we help live out of town. The company can visit the home by video, keep the keys and handle everything.
What if the estate is still in probate?
The executor or personal representative can usually sign with the company. If you are not sure, ask the probate court or an attorney.
How do we keep family items safe?
Before anything is priced, tell the company what the family is keeping. Those things are set aside in a closed room or packed for shipping.
Is it worth it if there are no antiques?
Usually, yes. Furniture, tools, kitchenware and everyday items add up. If a sale is not worth it, a buyout or clean-out may be the better choice.
What happens to what does not sell?
The company can donate it, haul it away or make an offer for what is left. You agree on this before the sale.
When do we get paid?
Usually within one to two weeks after the sale, along with a list of what was sold.
How long does it take?
Most homes take two to three weeks from the first visit to an empty house. A buyout can be done in a few days.
